Starting them Young - A Tree-Planting Activity by the Preschoolers by Patricia C. Triviño

by: Patricia C. Triviño - Preschool Coordinator / Academic Level Leader

Promoting environmental awareness and fostering a healthier ecology in the DLSC campus were some of the objectives in this year’s reach-in program of the Preschool Level.  Together with the designated community partner, Timbao Elementary School, our young Lasallians worked hand-in-hand in the tree-planting activity held at the school’s roadway.

Armed with the basic gardening tools of plastic pail, shovel, rake, and watering cans, the Preschoolers planted a total of 174 Narra seedlings along the school’s grounds last September 14, 2009.  They were assisted by the Preschool teachers, Teacher Assistants, Maintenance crew, and a number of volunteer Preschool parents. IS Principal – Mr. Raffy A. Reloza and Campus Grounds Development Officer – Mr. Mar Moraga were also present not only to witness the special event but to give support to the team’s worthwhile project.

Other highlights of the Reach-In program included Creative Arts Workshop Classes, Story-telling Time, and Acquaintance Party.  The activities prepared for the students were all superbly integrated with the program’s theme of environmental awareness.  It imparted exceptional information about love and care for the environment.

As with any outreach program, sharing and giving was highlighted.  The tree-planting project, along with the other programs set out for the children that day served as a wonderful opportunity to share blessings with others.  Once again, the program showed sincerity in living up to DLSC’s core values of Faith, Joy and Zeal of Service, and Communion in Mission. It was truly a tiring day for everyone but it was a day well spent.
