The OMTB Champions Mr. Jorge Buenaventura, Ms. Ging Sison, Mr. Joey Rosal (DLSU), Mr. Bernard Lunar (DLSU-Lipa), Mr. Jethro Arsenio & Ms. Cherry Pareja (DLSU-Dasmarinas) and Ms. Sonia O. Lusung & Ms. Noemi A Velario (DLSAU) participated the Mangrove Training conducted last September 11, 2009 at Session Hall of Orion, Bataan. For. Miguela M. Reyes-Ramirez, Ecosystems Management Specialist II & Chief of Protected Areas, Wildlife and Coastal Zone Management of PENRO (Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office) Bataan, was the guest speaker assisted by For. Shirley Fontella of CENRO (Community Environment and Natural Resources Office)-Orion and Mr. Jhun Hernandez of MAO (Municipal Agriculture Office) -Orion. SUGPO (Samahang Ugnayan ng Pangisdaan ng Orion) members headed by Brgy Captain Bernardo Rosete, Councilor Isagani de Leon and Vice Mayor Virgilio Isidro also participated on the said event.
Afterward, we had our courtesy call to the Mayor of Orion, Hon. Antonio L. Raymundo, Jr. He wished a good partnership between us and them for the rehabilitation and maintenance of mangrove biodiversity. Subsequently, the group visited sites- mangrove forest in Brgy Sta. Elena and Fishery school - where we saw diverse mangrove species like Api-api, Bungalon, Rhizophora spp,, Pagatpat and Saging-sagingan (false mangrove).
We also transplanted bungalon species in the said school as our hands-on training.
The said event showcased us the need for restoring our mangrove areas and how we could hand in hand have a collaborative effort with the LGUs.
